The Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, or Church of Archangel Saint Michael, is a late 17th century neogothic church located in the central plaza of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. I had the pleasure of visiting this gorgeous arts haven in the fall of 2015, which was the first international trip I had taken in over 10 years. A hidden gem tucked into the arid hills of Guanajuato, San Miguel is one of the most important centers of art in the western hemisphere. Whether its the endless art galleries along the winding cobblestone roads, masterful craftsmanship in woodwork, welding and masonry exemplified on every front door and building facade, public art displays and performances, the world famous Fabrica La Aroura, insanely delicious food and the friendliest people, I knew that I wouldn't walk away from my trip uninspired.

With my trusty Canon 6D in hand, I spent much of my days photographing this icon city. The central plaza is the heartbeat of the city, and I spent endless hours of the day photographing just about every angle of that plaza, park and church. This painting was based on one of my favorite shots, taken while I was laying on the ground in order to create that overpowering angle of the church and statue of San Miguel. One of the most striking aspects of the central plaza, and throughout much of the city, is the beautiful red stones and bricks used in the buildings, walls and fences.
